FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a deadly four-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on I-95 North in Fayetteville.
Troopers said that two people were injured and a young man driving a pickup truck died in a crash that involved a charter bus, an Amazon van, a pickup truck, and an SUV around 2:10 a.m. on I-95 North at mile marker 63.
At the scene of the crash, our crew saw the different types of vehicles sprawled across the highway, as well as several passengers on the charter bus being evaluated by emergency medical personnel for injuries.
The crash was reported at 2:12 a.m. on I-95 north near mile marker 63 in Cumberland County, according to a news release from N.C. State Highway Patrol Sgt. Marcus Bethea.
A Ford Explorer and a GMC pickup truck were disabled on the highway from an earlier collision, Bethea said.
A charter bus carrying 40 passengers heading north first crashed into the already stopped Explorer and GMC pickup truck, officials said.
Next, a tractor-trailer, also heading north, then crashed into the GMC pickup, pushing it into a concrete barrier, Bethea said.
Dawson Adams, 19, the driver of the GMC, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center were he died from his injuries, the news release said.
The driver of the Explorer was also taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. One occupant of the charter bus was treated for injuries.
This investigation of the first crash along with the secondary collision with all four vehicles remains ongoing, Bethea said.
An alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation was sent around 7:35 a.m. that I-95 North reopened.
CBS 17 has reached out to State Highway Patrol for more information on the circumstances around the crash.
