ESS scours daily news cycles and documents the numerous unfortunate daily preventable tragedies involving oncoming drivers colliding with disabled vehicles. We do this to verify this growing roadway safety issue, and to emphasize to motorists, automakers, safety regulators and lawmakers the urgency we face to implement a solution.

Tyler McGurl, 37, Killed After Semi-Trailer Strikes Disabled Car in Oklahoma
Lincoln County, Oklahoma (December 4, 2025) — A late-night crash on Interstate 44 in Lincoln County claimed the life of Tyler McGurl, a 37-year-old Oklahoma City man, after a semi-trailer struck his disabled vehicle while he waited for help, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
