The H.E.L.P.® Suite:
Advance Warning When Every Second Counts

ESS is the global leader in enhanced safety communication technology, closing the critical gaps left by outdated lighting and disconnected digital systems. By enabling real-time, cross-industry roadway communication, ESS connects vehicles, fleets, and public-safety systems so hazards are seen sooner and avoided more reliably. Backed by over 100 issued and pending patents across 43 countries, ESS is setting new global standards for consistent, connected, life-saving alerts.

At the core is H.E.L.P.® (Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol)—a suite of smart lighting control and digital alert solutions that turns disabled or vulnerable vehicles into clearly visible, digitally communicated hazards. H.E.L.P.® activates automatically after a crash, tire blowout, or emergency stop - or manually when needed - delivering the advanced safety communication today’s roads demand.

H.E.L.P.® Lighting Alerts

H.E.L.P.® Lighting Alerts create a flash pattern that makes stopped vehicles impossible to miss. Fully FMVSS 108-compliant, this advanced lighting function is tuned to human response to overcome driver distraction for maximum visibility and urgency.

Research from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) shows drivers change lanes up to 12 seconds earlier (360 m) and move over a lane at 3 times the rate than drivers approaching a vehicle using standard hazard flashers.

Key features:

- Optimized Flash Pattern: 4.0–6.0 Hz rate with a 35–60% duty cycle for sharp, high-contrast pulses.

- Enhanced Light Volume: Multiple lamps flash together, outlining the vehicle and boosting visibility in all conditions.

Digital Alerts

Powered by the H.E.L.P. Alert Network™, ESS delivers in-dash safety notifications that warn motorists about disabled vehicles, work zones, emergency responders, stopped trucks, and other real-time hazards ahead - using the interfaces drivers already rely on.

H.E.L.P.® Digital Alerts appear directly within navigation experiences, while Road Awareness Alerts deliver warnings to in-cabin displays, giving drivers more time to react without distraction. The same trusted, vehicle-sourced data also strengthens autonomous and semi-autonomous systems by enhancing sensor performance and real-time decision-making.

The H.E.L.P.® ALERT NETWORK:
Real-Time Safety Intelligence Connecting Vehicles, Workers, and Responders - in One Smart Network

Three Coordinated Pillars. One Mission: Safer Roads.

The H.E.L.P.® Alert Network™ is a next-generation safety platform that transforms the way roadway hazards are detected, shared, and acted upon. It collects, analyzes, and distributes critical hazard data from commercial fleets, connected vehicles, work zones, infrastructure, and emergency systems - empowering more timely decisions and safer outcomes for everyone on the road.

Please contact ESS if you’d like to join this rapidly expanding network to help improve roadway safety.

Multiple Integration & Deployment Approaches

ESS offers multiple integration approaches designed for both new vehicle platforms and existing or legacy fleets.

Contact ESS or visit Markets We Serve to determine the best fit and to accelerate deployment of H.E.L.P.® - bringing safer roads to your drivers, customers, and communities sooner.

Software-Only Integration

Ideal for vehicles that already have capable onboard electronics — such as a Body Control Module (BCM), infotainment system, or telematics platform — without the need for additional hardware. In this approach, H.E.L.P.® logic is embedded directly into existing vehicle systems and can be deployed via over-the-air (OTA) updates to vehicles already in service or integrated during production for new models.

Hardware-Based Deployment (Aftermarket/Retrofit)

Ideal for legacy vehicles, mixed fleets, or aftermarket applications where modifying existing vehicle software isn’t practical. This turnkey approach uses ESS hardware — such as the H.E.L.P.® Controller, H.E.L.P.® Connect modules, or H.E.L.P. DeliverSAFE®  to manage both conspicuous lighting and digital alerts independently of the vehicle’s native systems.

Transponder-Assisted (Hybrid Model)

Ideal for vehicles that already have — or can easily add — conspicuous lighting and want to enable digital alerting quickly. In this model, the OEM or fleet manages lighting behavior through existing software or an aftermarket lightbar, while an ESS-provided H.E.L.P.® Connect transponder (or approved third-party telematics system) securely communicates digital alerts to the H.E.L.P.® Alert Network.

H.E.L.P.-Ready

This approach enables new vehicles to be pre-wired during manufacturing so a H.E.L.P.® Controller and H.E.L.P.® Connect module can be added quickly and easily in the future.
