TN man charged in hit and run that left tow truck technician dead along KY interstate

A tow truck technician in Western Kentucky was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 165 Wednesday morning, and the driver has been charged with leaving the scene. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred around 6:50 a.m. Central on Interstate 165 near the Ohio County line. The sheriff’s office said the technician was out of his truck assisting a disabled tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the road when a passing tractor-trailer hit him.

The technician, identified as David Fischer, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fischer’s body was found away from the tow truck, according to court documents, and his lights were on at the time of the collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer that hit him did not stop, according to the sheriff’s office, and was later found about 12 miles away on the side of the road in Ohio County. Suk Subba, 31, of Antioch, Tenn., was inspecting the damage to his tractor-trailer when he was found. Subba told police another vehicle pushed him toward the tow truck and his brakes did not work, according to court documents. He was detained and charged with second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of accident with serious injury or death and failure to give the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. Blood was collected from the tractor-trailer. Subba was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation and a blood draw. He was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center at 12:53 p.m., according to jail records. The sheriff’s office accident reconstruction unit is investigating the crash. It is unclear if Subba has an attorney.
