Edgewood teen changing tire struck, killed in I-695 crash on Sunday

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A 17-year-old boy from Edgewood was killed early Sunday morning after being struck while outside a disabled vehicle on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County, Maryland State Police said.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack responded shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 2 to the outer loop of I-695 east of southbound I-83 for a reported pedestrian-involved crash.

Police said the teen was one of three passengers in a Lexus IS that had become inoperable in the far-right lane.

The preliminary investigation indicates the teen was outside the vehicle attempting to change a tire when, for unknown reasons, a Honda Accord struck the rear driver’s side of the Lexus and then struck the pedestrian.

Emergency medical services personnel pronounced the 17-year-old dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as Kyeahle Lamerah Armstead, 18, of Baltimore, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported at the scene. The driver of the Honda remained on scene, police said.

Investigators believe the Lexus had its hazard lights activated.
