GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One person was killed and three others were seriously injured when their van hit a disabled pickup truck and was then hit by a semi on northbound US-131.
The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on US-131 after I-196 (Exit #85 B). An unoccupied, disabled pickup truck was in the center lane of the highway, police say. The van hit the truck before being hit by a semi.
The 35-year-old driver and one of the passengers were ejected, and the driver died at the scene. All three passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The truck owner and semi driver were not injured.
Northbound US-131 was down to only one lane for several hours, causing major backups during the morning commute. It has since reopened.
This crash remains under investigation. State troopers are reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts.
