Jersey City Man Killed in Route 9 Crash on Edison Bridge While Fixing Disabled Truck

SAYREVILLE, NJ - A Jersey City man was struck and killed early Wednesday morning while attempting to repair his disabled tractor-trailer on the Edison Bridge, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Sayreville Police Department Chief Daniel Plumacker announced.

According to a statement, Jamal Ebron, 53, was outside his vehicle on the northbound side of Route 9 around 4:51 a.m. when he was hit by a Hyundai Kona.

The Kona was driven by a 33-year-old man from Old Bridge. Authorities said Ebron had pulled his truck over into the right lane and was trying to make repairs when the crash occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries, officials said.

The crash is under active investigation.

Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash camera footage to contact Officer Kales at 732-525-5418 or Detective McGarry at 732-745-3140.
