Man standing outside disabled vehicle on International Speedway Boulevard struck and killed

A 20-year-old man from Spring Hill, Florida, standing outside his disabled vehicle on International Speedway Boulevard west of Daytona Beach, was struck and killed on Sunday, Sept. 21, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred at International Speedway Boulevard and Red John Drive around 8:50 p.m., investigating troopers said.

The Spring Hill man’s disabled vehicle, a 1997 Ford F250 with an attached trailer, was stopped and partially blocking an outside lane. He was standing in the westbound lane outside the broken-down vehicle when he was hit by a westbound 2017 Ford F250, troopers said.

The driver of the 2017 F250, a 67-year-old woman and her passenger, a 67-year-old man, both of DeLand, were not injured. Both remained at the site of the crash, according to troopers.

The Spring Hill man died at the scene of the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
