MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 36-year-old from Warren is facing felony charges in a deadly hit-and-run on west I-696 early Sunday.
Authorities said Nateria Smith, a 29-year-old from Madison Heights, was struck by a vehicle while she was attempting to fill her car with a gas can just after 1 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. Investigators believe she was struck by a Chevrolet SUV that exited the freeway at Hoover Road.
Police said the driver of the Chevy did not stop, return to the scene or call 911 to report the crash.
The SUV was found by police in a driveway near Hoover and Martin roads, where it reportedly had damage consistent with the crash. Further analysis of the vehicle allegedly linked the Chevrolet to the crash.
Police said they spoke with Meghan Hamilton at the home and took her into custody. She was charged Wednesday, Aug. 13, with failure to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death.
Hamilton’s bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety, along with GPS tether and no alcohol/drug use conditions if posted. Her next court date is scheduled for Aug. 28.
